Sprudge Design Awards 2023: Outstanding Packaging, Seasonal or Limited Edition Semi-Finalists

We're delighted to share that alongside other impressive businesses in the global coffee community, our Compostable Canvas Designs is a semi-finalist for a 2023 Sprudge Design Award: Outstanding Packaging, Seasonal or Limited Edition.

And we need your support to vote for us!  Tick ✔️ 'decent packaging' for Outstanding Packaging, Seasonal or Limited Edition Semi-Finalists.

Outstanding Packaging, Seasonal or Limited Edition Category:

This award honours outstanding design for any seasonal or limited edition product, including holiday blends, limited edition seasonal offerings, or other featured small production designs.

Since day one of decent packaging, we’ve been passionate about championing local artists and celebrating exceptional design within our coffee community. Previously, no other food or beverage packaging company had collaborated with local artists through their product range. We saw this as a unique opportunity to distinguish ourselves from our competitors, and to be able to provide a takeaway cup for hospitality businesses who are looking to add a spark to their packaging range, without the full commitment of custom designs. As a brand that’s dedicated to design, we knew artist collaborations was a concept we could deliver exceptionally well, and so the idea for our Limited Edition Compostable Canvas Hot Cups was born.

This limited edition range has allowed us to work with up-and-coming artists from each market, while enabling us to produce takeaway cups that are original, one-of-a-kind designs, and offering a platform to support these artists and showcase their talent. We’ve also supported local charities such as Project Waterfall (UK) and Bees Up Top (NZ) through this range, as well as running student artist competitions, reinforcing our commitment to the local community.

In both the United Kingdom and New Zealand, our bi-annual Limited Edition Compostable Canvases have become an integral part of who we are, and we feel privileged to work with so many talented artists around the world. We are now inundated with requests from local artists who want to have their artwork featured on our Hot Cups. Our customers, who are predominantly cafe owners, love having the fresh seasonal designs and sharing these across their social media channels. The limited edition cups are proven to be popular, and never last long!

Since 2016, we have created over 18 designs and we’re excited to share a new Compostable Canvas in both NZ and the UK in early 2024.

Here’s a selection of talented artists we’ve been lucky enough to work with:

Caroline Dowsett, Carl Santos, Grace Popplewell, Nick Staples, Kate Sylvester – NZ Fashion Designer, Lois O’Hara, Project Waterfall Charity & Emma Evans-Freke, Ruby Alice Jones, Tess Smith-Roberts, Jovan Milovic, Chris Hutchinson (Chippy), Mayk Studio, Celia Steenhuisen x Bees up Top Charity, Jive Prints, Gina Kiel, Scizzorface, Andrew Bond, Helen Mai and more...
